heavens - 2026-??

A heaven is a horizonless plane of unvariegated grass that extends uninterrupted forever. Nothing has ever happened in a heaven and nothing will ever happen in a heaven. Sometimes the heaven includes different kinds of light and shadow, or non-grass elements. These are tiny speckles in the vast plain of a heaven.

A heaven might be somewhere you go when you die. It is the place retreated to in a fantasy where there is nothing left to do and nothing new that will ever happen.

Why Am I Showing You A Heaven?

The heavens share something in common with my other work and my kind of artistic philosophy at large, which is that if you want to make something that’s Real, i.e. an art object that has a potent psychic presence, like something that possesses enough affective gravity to really bend the fabric of emotion in any given room, it must go through a Process that involves painstaking labour. People can and will prove this idea wrong but in my own work I seek to make as deeply Real an art-object as I can via this heuristic.

This means I am trying to stretch the idea of a heaven into a shape that I must labour over, so I can make it Real and you can understand what I’m trying to talk about. I want you to be able to look at the heaven and understand that it is a place where nothing will happen and nothing will ever happen, and feel the feeling that comprehension brings to you.
